Volunteer roles in school governance - Academy Councillors

Bristol

Approximately 6 hours per month

At the Cabot Learning Foundation, we are passionate about giving the 9,000 children at our primary and secondary academies the best possible start in life. Our volunteer Academy Councillors have a crucial role to play in our schools’ local governance, as they challenge the way we think and work, support our staff to surpass themselves, and champion excellence in everything we do.

Operating alongside elected parents and staff, a student advocate, a local authority representative and the Principal and Executive Principal for a term of four years, you will attend up to six meetings per year, which are usually held in the late afternoon or early evening. In addition, we will look to you to take on a link role and monitor a particular area of our performance, which could be anything from a subject area to health and safety or specialised provision for disadvantaged children.

Wherever you can make the biggest difference, you may be certain that you will enjoy real impact on the performance of our academies – and the achievements of each and every child. At the heart of a network of over 160 committed volunteers, you will actively transform the future of the community in which you live and work – and you will expand your own skills at the same time.

We are particularly keen to hear from people with experience in HR, finance, governance, ICT, health and safety, estates management, community engagement and of course education, but are open to applications from all sectors of the community. In return, we offer extensive training and mentoring from experienced Councillors – plus the chance to add an exciting and high profile role to your CV.
