King’s Oak Academy hosted a visit from students and ex- students from Bimm Bristol, the UK’s leading rock college.

The audience consisted of Music students from Years 10, 11, 12 & 13. Students took part in a song writing workshop, Bimm students also talked about their careers in the music industry, give a band performance and highlighted pathways available into higher education, in music.

Students at BIMM have a very different experience to many other students. This is a college where the students have visits from Paul Weller, Scissor Sisters, Roger Daltrey and Lemmy from Motorhead, who tell them their life experiences and teach them how to survive on tour, and Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis hands out the degrees certificates to all the graduates.

Tim Warren, Team leader of Performance & Participation at King’s Oak said, “This is a great opportunity for our students to have access to professionals in their field of work and share with them their experiences of what it is like in the music business. We strive, wherever possible, to bring the real world into the classroom to enhance the educational experience of our students and this event will achieve just that and much more.”
