Hans Price Academy
Hans Price Academy
The Cabot Learning Federation (CLF) will open its fourth Academy in Weston super Mare in September 2010 subject to the funding agreement being signed by the Department for Education in the next couple of months.
David Carter the Executive Principal has been working with the staff, students and governors of Wyvern Community School for over a year to develop the vision for the Academy and to work with staff to build their confidence in the change of status.
In March 2010, Armando di Finizio was confirmed as Principal Designate of the Academy. Armando, who until the start of May 2010 was Principal at Bristol Brunel Academy, one of the CLF academies in Bristol, will become Principal of the new Academy on 1 September 2010
The vision for the new Academy is emerging through consultation and staff have been told that their positions in the Academy are assured and that they will have a crucial role in helping David, Armando and other federation staff make the new Academy the best school in Weston.
We consulted with staff, students and parents about the new name and from a variety of creative and excellent suggestions we settled on Hans Price as the name for the Academy. Hans Price was an architect who lived in Weston super Mare and who designed many of the buildings that are famous landmarks in the town. We hope that the legacy his work has left on the community will be reflected in the future by the success of the Academy for future generations of young people.
The main developments we are working on for the Academy include the following:
- A major consultation with school and community groups on the design of the new school building which we hope will be ready for 2012-13
- A new curriculum structure for year 7 that will enable students to acquire the best learning habits and skills that will enable them to work confidently and with independence
- We will retain the Sports College specialism as we do not have this focus on any of our other Academies and add Business and Enterprise to this
- We will ensure that the learning in Years 10 and 11 is set up to enable every student to achieve five GCSE passes at C or better and at least half of the student to include English and Maths in their five
- Staff will enjoy the benefits of working in a federation, sharing ideas, resources and training with other colleagues in the partnership and where it is appropriate, to spend time working in one of our other Academies
The CLF is excited about the opportunity this new development brings. We are committed to the core purpose of ensuring every student has the best quality education we can provide, and look forward to extending this to the young people of Weston super Mare
