Olympic Torch Run

To mark the beginning of the countdown to the Olympic Games in 2012 the Cabot Learning Federation hosted an Olympic Torch Relay event across John Cabot Academy, Bristol Brunel Academy and Bristol Metropolitan Academy.

The event involved over 150 students from years 7-10 and took place on Tues 29th June 2010. The event started at John Cabot where students carried the torch around the Academy clocking up a team distance of one mile. The torch was then carried by a smaller select team of students to Bristol Brunel. Once at Bristol Brunel, the torch was then handed over to students who ran a mile around the school. A select group of Bristol Brunel students then ran to Bristol Metropolitan where it was handed over to Bristol Metropolitan students who then ran their own torch relay.

Finally the torch was returned and carried back to Bristol Brunel, then on to John Cabot.

Students were supervised along the route, by staff and VI Formers who carried First Aid equipment and water.

Chris Ballard PE Teacher at John Cabot said, “This was a fantastic event that drew the students together from the three schools, and will mark the beginning of a series of Olympic events over the next two years building towards London 2012.”
