BBA Students Working With St Joesphs Primary
Written by Dean Blake on 20/07/2010 – 11:48 am -Tuesday July 20th was the start of activities week at Bristol Brunel Academy and as part of that Miss Hobbs, Programme Leader for Food, Hospitality and Work Related Learning took her five Year 10 Hospitality students and 10 Year 7 students to St Josephs Catholic Primary school for an art and craft day.
Bristol Brunel students made products with the Reception class that will be sold at their Home grown Event in October run by the Hospitality group. They did fabric printing with vegetables, which will be made into bags or door hangers, they painted tiles with the theme of plants, these will be used to decorate the Bristol Brunel allotment and they created mosaics to decorate plant pots.
This is the last in a series of projects Bristol Brunel staff and students have carried out with St Josephs this summer. Previously they had worked on Planting, healthy eating (with practical) and a visit to Bristol Brunel’s allotment which included, planting, plant identification and a bug hunt.
Miss Hobbs said, “Being financially aware is very important in these modern times. We have been funded by the West of England Learning Enterprise Partnership to encourage enterprise in our school, and work with our local primary schools to promote it further. We have chosen to do this by enabling the Primary school to take part in the Home Grown Event held in October where students make and sell products for sale to the public. St Josephs Catholic Primary school has been involved in a number of activities run by current year 10 Hospitality students, which have included, planting, learning about healthy eating, making coleslaw and fruit sticks.”
