BAE At BBA Igniting Engineering Interest
Written by Dean Blake on 14/11/2011 – 11:31 am -A BAE (British Aerospace Engineering) road show entertained all Year Seven students at Bristol Brunel Academy with a fun, lively and interactive theatre show. This was followed by a series of hands on interactive workshops for sixty selected Year Sevens.
Delivered by a cast of actors and actresses and supported by scientists and engineers, the aim of this event was to inspire and engage students in engineering and science. This event also supported the STEM curriculum (science, technology, engineering and mathematics.) So this project will further enhance the students understanding of these subjects.
Workshops involved tasks such as building and programming Lego robots to race around a course. Working in teams and competing with each other this will help build team working and communication skills and working to deadlines to complete tasks on time.
Andrew Crichton, Teacher of Design & Technology, who organised this event said, “This is a great opportunity for our students to learn and work with industry professionals in their area of expertise. Wherever possible, we like to bring industry into the classroom to give our students an incredible teaching and learning experience so my thanks go to BAE for taking the time to come and work with our students here at Bristol Brunel.”
